Wild Apes Need Protection From Human Illnesses

Recently, two chimps at a wildlife sanctuary in sub-Saharan Africa contracted staph infections from human handlers at the facility.  Staph infections are very resistant to antibiotics and experts predict that wild apes, whose DNA is closely related to ours, are especially susceptible to human diseases.   This affinity between humans and apes, coupled with the loss of their natural habitat and an expected boom in wild ape populations, has scientists concerned.  Learn more here.
