Scientists in Germany have been excavating an open-cast brown coal mine since 2008. They have found amazingly well preserved remains of large mammals, reptiles, trees, flora and fauna. The site has also yielded a collection of eight hunting spears, reported to be the oldest ever found at 300,000 years of age.
