Birds Hold ‘Funerals’ For Their Dead

A UC Davis student performed a recent experiment to assess the behavior of Scrub Jay birds.  She found that the birds, which are extremely territorial, react to their dead and summon other birds to view the fallen.  According to her observations collected via video camera, many Jays will congress in a cacophonous gathering that could last as long as 30 minutes.  Scientists believe that this could be a way to warn other members of their species about danger.  Read more here.
